Inter Miami hosted Fan Appreciation Match presented by Publix, its final home game of the 2021 MLS regular season, against New York City FC on Saturday, Oct. 30.
Despite their best efforts, the Herons lost 1-3 against New York. In spite of the result, however, head coach Phil Neville praised the Clubâs supporters and their unrelenting support of the team.
âWeâve got the best supporters in the country, and that is our biggest strength, thatâs our X-factor and it makes me even more determined to be successful at this fĂștbol club next season,â said Neville.
Defender NicolĂĄs Figal was disappointed the team did not win the match but was still impressed and inspired by the supporters who never give up on the team.Â
âWe really like and enjoy the support that weâve received from the fans. Itâs unwavering; the energy, the support, the chanting. Weâre sad because we wanted to give the fans a positive goodbye with a win today because they deserve it. Hopefully, in the last game of the season, we give them that,â said Figal.
âI am sad, but grateful towards our fans because they have always maintained their energy and support of the team even in the most difficult moments.â
Neville believes that the supporters have made each game feel important, regardless of the score.
âTheir unwavering support, their unwavering loyalty, the unwavering noise that they bring to every game. Every game feels like a playoff game.âÂ
With only one game to go this season, Neville is looking towards the future as he wants the team to replicate the collective and togetherness of their supporters on the pitch.Â
âWeâve got to have a collective spirit to win this league⊠I think what weâve done this season [is] we put the foundations to building that type of [collective] culture. We will focus all our efforts, all our energy on making sure those are the biggest qualities that we have come [next year],â concluded Neville.
