Inter Miami CF defender Jairo Quinteros has been called up to the Bolivian National Team for its upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. The young center back will join up with his La Verde teammates on Saturday, Jan. 22.
First, Bolivia will take on Venezuela on the road at the Estadio Agustín Tovar in Barinas, Venezuela on Friday, Jan. 28 at 5 p.m. ET. Subsequently, the team will host Chile at the Estadio Hernando Siles in La Paz, Bolivia on Tuesday, Feb 1 at 3 p.m. ET.
Despite his youth, in 2021 the center back featured prominently for Bolivia’s senior side in 2021. In total, he recorded 11 appearances for his country’s national team last year, seven in FIFA World Cup qualifying matches, three in the CONMEBOL Copa América 2021 and one international friendly.
Prior to being part of La Verde’s senior side, he was a mainstay in the Bolivian national team youth categories, playing matches for the U-20, U-21 and U-23 teams. Quinteros played every minute of Bolivia’s four games in the 2019 South American U-20 Championship in Chile. He also featured as a fullback in the Bolivian U-23 team’s four CONMEBOL 2020 Pre-Olympic Tournament fixtures, starting in each of them.
The 20-year-old, who was signed by the club in February 2020 from LaLiga side Valencia CF before making 50 total appearances with Club Bolívar in his native Bolivia on loan during the following two seasons, joined his new teammates in the club’s world-class facilities in Fort Lauderdale earlier this week to kick off Inter Miami’s preseason ahead of his first MLS season in 2022.
